2) Monthly Statistics Highlights

 
     
 

In October 2008, Macau International Airport (MIA) has handled .3,874 aircraft movements and 415,339 passengers.  It has also processed 6,727 tonnes of freight and 17 tonnes of airmail. 

When compared accumulated figures with the same month in 2007, all sectors grew negatively: aircraft movement and passengers dropped 3% and 4% respectively while air-freights and airmail also slumped significantly by 40% and 13%.

Among the 4,377,138 accumulated passengers in 2008, Taiwan, China as the major contributor of the market, accounted for 41% of the total, registering 1,791,869 passengers.  Other Cities in China still ranked second, constituting 24% of the total and reporting 1,051,469 passengers.  Malaysia accounted 11%, with 491,873 passengers and Thailand ranked the fourth, reported 389,855 passengers and accounted 9% of the total.  The Philippines occupied the fifth position, with 201,601 passengers accounted 5% of the total.  When compared the accumulated passengers figures registered during the same month in 2007, Taiwan, China and Other Cities in China slumped significantly by 18% and 21% respectively. Other major country-destinations such as Malaysia (41%), Thailand (39%) and the Philippines (72%), all posted double-digits growths.

The five major cities in October were: Taipei registered 125,214 passengers, which also represented 30% of the total then followed by Bangkok recorded 43,188 passengers or 10% of the total.  Kaohsiung, also contributed 10% of the total volume in October with 40,202 passengers while PRC city, Shanghai reported 37,951 passengers, accounting another 9% of the total passengers during the month. The fifth position, Kuala Lumpur accounted 32,523 passengers or 8% of the total.
When considering the monthly growths of the major city-destinations during October:  Osaka (176%), Manila (71%), Jakarta (64%), Singapore (61%), Beijing (55%), Bangkok (45%) and Kuala Lumpur (29%) all posted positive growths.  However, major cities such as Taipei (-24%), Kaohsiung (-23%) and Shanghai (-28%) dropped in passengers figures during the month.

The airport has processed 89,918 tons of accumulated cargo in October, represented a significant decrease of 40% when compared with the same month last year, Taiwan, China registered 57% of the total cargo throughput, with 51,557 tonnes of freights, in term of growth it dropped by 38%.  Other Cities in China was responsible for 27% of the total, registering 24,157 tonnes of cargo and decreased by 50%.  Singapore reported 4,251 tonnes or 5% of the total freights and slumped 11%.  United States of America accounted 3% of the total freights or 2,283 tonnes, dropped by 21% over one year ago.  Indonesia was the only major cargo destination that posted an upward growth of 80%, with 1,518 tonnes of freights or 2% of the total.  

All the top five cargo cities such as Taipei (-52%), Shanghai (-67%), Kaohsiung (-37%), Singapore (-57%) and Dallas (-61%), posted downward trends in their throughputs during October.

  Macau International Airport has launched a new service called Express Link easily identifiable by the logo

With this seamless service, passengers arriving at MFM by air can simply continue their trip to Hong Kong by sea and China by land, through the Macau Ferry Terminal or Border. They only need to take a transit bus available at the airside of the airport, without the need of any formalities from Immigration and Customs in Macau. On the other hand passengers departing from MFM can also enjoy the same convenient service if they arrive to Macau via the Ferry Terminal.
